  Heirs of Hugo Johnston Book A, Page 108, Columbus County, North Carolina, January 6, 1810 This indenture made this 6th day of January in the year of our lord 1810 between Richard Holmes, Henry Stevens, Gabriel Johnston, Samuel Johnston, James Johnston, Margaret Johnston, Hugh G. Johnston of the one part and Stephen Barefield of the other part all late of the state of North Carolina and county of Columbus and Bladen; now this indenture witnesseth that for and consideration of the sum of one hundred fifty dollars in hand paid before the insealing and delivering of these presents the receipt thereof the acknowledged have given, granted, bargained, and sold and do by these presents give grant bargain sell enself convey and confirm unto him the aforesaid Stephen Barfield all that certain tract of parcel of land lying and being in the aforesaid in county of Bladen containing 300 acres beginning at a ? in the province line adjoining Joshua Stevens lands ? No. 55 E. 54 chains 54 links to a ? ? ? as by the patent? will more fully appear which patent was granted to Luke Barfield and bears the date 11th November 1779 and by him granted to Hugh Johnson by deed of conveyance which said tract or parcel of land as above mentioned. We the above named persons heirs at law to Hugh Johnson do do bind ourselves our heirs executors v, forever to warrant and defend to him the said Stephen Barefield his heirs ? ? with all that therewith appertains free and clear from all claim or claims whatsoever in witness whereof the ? ? law her unto set our hand and seal by day and year above ?
